What’s In My Bag

Bag
ThinkTank Airport TakeOff Rolling Camera Bag

I love this bag. It holds EVERYTHING I have for gear and more. On wedding days I can even slip my laptop into the large front pocket and strap my lightstand onto the side of the bag. It has wheels and although I haven’t had to use them yet it has concealed backpack straps that are zipped into the back of the bag. Maybe someday I’ll have an off-road wedding? :)

Cameras
2 Nikon D700′s

Lenses
50mm f/1.4
24mm f/1.4
70-200 f/2.8 VR
105mm f/2.8 VR

The 50mm is on my camera probably 75% of the time, so it is my main lens and it is amazing. This lens is why I fell in love with a shallow depth of field (a.k.a. the blur) and soft skin tones…mmmhhhmmm. I use the 24mm to get fun wider shots and the 70-200 whenever I need some zoom. Love the 105mm macro lens for getting detail shots at weddings and for newborn sessions.

Lighting
2 SB-900 Speedlights
2 PocketWizard Plus Transceivers
Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible
ManFrotto Lightstand
Lots of rechargeable batteries

I use this mainly for reception lighting. I have one of the speedlights on camera with the Gary Fong diffuser and the other speedlight setup externally on the lightstand. All of this working together using the PocketWizards.

Other randoms
10 8GB CompactFlash Cards
CompactFlash Card Reader
Extra camera batteries
Business cards
Rain gear

…I will continue to update as my collection grows, hopefully a lot ;)

♥ Emily

I love his sense of humor, his giant heart and his invisibility cloak. And when he cooks spaghetti. -Lizzy
I love her sense of humor, she’s always there when I need her the most, and she sings amazing morning songs. I love them, they make my day. -Josh

Oh, how do I begin to describe these two. They booked their wedding entirely online and since they were in Tucson we didn’t have a chance to meet before the wedding day, which was a little different for me. I had a pretty good idea from just emailing back and forth online that they were going to be fun to work with, but after being around them for only a few minutes I felt like we were long time friends and I knew it was going to be an amazing day. They were so care-free and oh so much in love. There was so much excitement and emotion between them that I hardly had to pipe in at all, I was really able to capture “them” all on their own. I was witnessing the next chapter of their lives unfold and it was wonderful.
Lizzy and Josh were married 3.15.11 at the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson. In the usual March fashion, it was a beautiful spring day that made it all a little more perfect.

Below are some of my favorites. Click here to view a slideshow from their day.

erika + james | phoenix wedding photography

“We reserve Sundays just for ourselves. We are so busy during the week that on Sundays, we like to only spend time with each other with the phones turned off to catch up. We really like to just drive around and see where each turn will take us while we’re having deep conversations.” Sunday March 6th was no exception for these two. They spent the day together and ended it as husband and wife.

Erika and James are high school sweethearts. When James noticed Erika in a computer class they had together, he “accidentally” broke his computer so he could be moved to the station next to her. And lets just say their grades in this class went down from there :)

Their wedding and reception took place at The Farm at South Mountain and it was a gorgeous day. The weather was a perfect reflection of Arizona in March. All the family pitched in to help with the day and were there to celebrate the start of their new chapter.

Thank you anonymous mama! ;)

i’m on my way!

so as some of you know, i have continued to work a full-time day job while starting this amazing, fun, overwhelming, and down right crazy thing called a small business. i didn’t know at first if it was something that i would want to pursue as a career or if it was just a fun hobby to put my creative side to use, but the “hobby” quickly evolved…into my passion, my dream, and now my reality. with this all in mind and after a lot (and a lot and a lot) of thinking, starting next week i’m going to be working at my day job on a part-time contract basis only with the goal of working 100% in photography in the near future {insert cheers!}

i didn’t expect for this to happen so quickly, but i am overjoyed that it has. i feel so blessed to have the support i do and the amazing friends/clients that have helped me get to where i am. i am soooo excited to be able to put more of my time into the business and it is going to allow me to reach my goals faster (that i just established here) and be more of the photographer that i really want to be. aaaand my husband, pets, family, and friends can see more of me again :)

so i’ll leave it at that after a little woooooooooo and of course a little teaser below. have a wonderful weekend all!

p.s. this picture pretty much sums up my excitement too…oh little miss s, you are so cute
p.p.s. no, this isn’t an april fools joke :)

meridith - April 1, 2011 - 11:24 am

I am so excited for you! Congrats. We can keep each other going towards that goal.
